Tipi wedding and handfasting
Katy and James’ delightful wedding was at the Hidden Hives Tipis in Derbyshire, a wonderful setting. The weather was glorious and everyone was in a relaxed and excited mood.

As James and Katy live in Australia, we’d planned the whole ceremony together by Skype. It was wonderful to meet the two of them in person just a few days before their special day when they’d finally arrived in the UK.

The venue was completely private with lakes and a camping area. There was a fantastic huge tipi for the reception and a special sweet little one for the ceremony and even wooden benches for the guests to sit on. There was so much space that there was plenty of choice as to where to hold the ceremony.

The family had decorated the tipi with Australian and UK flags as this was a wedding that was going to join together a couple from two hemispheres!
James’ mother was waiting with him when Katy made her entrance across the grass with both of her parents who gave her away.

The ceremony started with a poem read by Katy’s sister, and went on to include a unique handfasting where five different friends each came up with a different coloured ribbon as part of the ceremony.

Katy and James read their vows to each other whilst their hands were tied and once they were proclaimed husband and wife, the little flower girls gave out confetti and the happy newlyweds danced down the aisle!
